New trees planted in the park !
The Tree Restitution Advisory Committee awarded eight new trees to be planted in India Point Park. An additional five trees will also be planted as replacements for some that did not survive our previous planting project. The trees include: 2 Pin Oak, 3 American Holly, 3 Red Oak, 1 London Plane, 3 Red Pine and 1 Red Maple. Marjorie Powning, co-chair of Friends of India Point Park, lobbied on behalf of the park and the Tree Restitution Advisory Committee was headed by Doug Still, Providence City Forester and Chris Rooney, National Grid’s Lead Forestry Supervisor. The committee was created following the removal of several mature trees on South Main Street in Providence to allow for the expansion of electrical duct work by National Grid. A big thanks to all!
